These are images of my end of year hand in for typography. I like the idea of unwrapping/opening things and the physical interaction this gives to items. I also find that whenever I get a parcel through the post - even if I know what is coming, there is a sense of excitement and I feel the need to open it as quickly as possible. I wanted to create this excitement for my work for the hand in. I separated each of my prints with a sheet of tissue paper - showing the care that I take over my work, making sure that it wasn’t damaged during transit. Each print also came with a designed card identifying each one. There was a separate section to include my sketchbooks. I also included an invoice that I designed.
I was aware at the time that I was taking a risk with it and that the tutor may not have approved of my handing in my work in this manner. However I remembered his words from the start of the year “don’t be afraid to fail” I wanted to try something different and even if it hadn’t have worked or wasn’t liked at least you could see the effort that I had put into the hand in. I didn’t want to just hand in another black folder like all the others - I wanted my work to stand out against the rest. Which this achieved.
He obviously approved as the first line of my feed back was “First off I like the box + style! Imaginative + playful.”
Already I’m putting thought into next years hand in!
